JEFFERSON COUNTY, MO — The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission (MHTC) announces the selection of the Interstate 55 Corridor Improvements Design-Build Project to the KCI Team. The selected team had to meet or exceed several goals including: maximizing reliability and safety on I-55 and US 67; providing a durable and maintainable transportation system compatible with regional development; constructing the project safely and minimizing impacts to customers; and completing the project on schedule utilizing a diverse workforce.

The proposal from the KCI Team — comprised of KCI Construction Company, Bartlett & West, and Wilson & Company — was deemed to be the apparent best value to taxpayers based on the project goals. The project will cost approximately $246 million to construct and will be complete by the end of 2026.

Project details include: constructing an additional lane on I-55 in both directions from Route Z to US 67; replacing the intersection of US 67 and Route CC with a grade separated interchange; constructing new interchanges at Route Z, McNutt, and US 67/I-55; adding lanes at the SB I-55 to SB US 67 ramp and the NB 67 to NB I-55 ramp; replacing 14 bridges; and rehabilitating 12 bridges.
