This undertaking is a significant component of Governor Kathy Hochul's comprehensive initiative, which has allocated $230 million toward the revitalization and modernization of upstate airports. Among the beneficiaries of this strategic funding are Binghamton, Watertown, Syracuse, Rochester, Ogdensburg, Saratoga County, Sullivan County, and Adirondack airports.
The primary objective of the Albany International Airport terminal expansion is to alleviate congestion and enhance passenger flow. The development will effectively prevent security lines from encroaching onto the pedestrian bridge connecting the parking garage to the terminal, streamlining the airport experience. Furthermore, the project aims to reconfigure concessions to establish distinct separation from the TSA checkpoint, enhancing both convenience and efficiency.
As a recipient of $60 million of the state's $230 million investment, Albany International Airport's expansion project encompasses a range of enhancements. A business center will be established within the pre-checkpoint area, facilitating conferences and meetings for business travelers. Additionally, a children's play zone, sensory room, and expanded retail spaces are set to enhance the overall passenger experience. The project's scope extends to include improvements in the facility's heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, ensuring enhanced indoor air quality and superior filtration standards along with architectural upgrades.
“We are thrilled to begin work on this milestone project and work with Albany International Airport to elevate the airport's capabilities and redefine the passenger journey," said Carl Stewart, Vice President and General Manager of Turner Construction Company. "The groundbreaking event serves as a promising testament to the collaborative efforts and shared vision that will shape the future of Albany's aviation landscape.”
