The East Metro Corridor is a vital north/south corridor that connects State Route 25 and U.S. Highway 80 in Rankin County. Opening the East Metro Corridor instantly improves safety and efficiency throughout Rankin County by connecting two heavily-traveled highways.
Other officials recognized at the ribbon cutting ceremony included Congressman Michael Guest, Flowood Mayor Gary Rhoads, Pearl Mayor Jake Windham, and Jackson Municipal Airport Authority representatives, among others. Simmons applauded Lee for pulling everyone together to open the corridor.
“This is a coordinated, collaborative effort to improve infrastructure throughout Rankin County,” Simmons said. “I’m thrilled to be recognized here today, but it was the individuals before me that understood the vision and the purpose of completing this route and made the commitment that got us to its opening today. I can assure you that everyone behind me here will continue moving infrastructure throughout Rankin County in this direction.”
The East Metro Corridor is now open traffic. The project was partially funded by MDOT and the Federal Highway Administration.
