The $14.7-million project provided for the construction of Lake Harbour Drive Extension from Highland Colony Parkway to U.S. Highway 51 in Ridgeland. The project included a new bridge over Interstate 55 along with the grade, drain, and paving of a new boulevard section of Lake Harbour, and provided an at-grade railroad crossing.
Eutaw Construction Company was awarded the project. It was funded by the Federal Highway Administration and appropriated by the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT). The project provides essential transportation improvements for traffic congestion, emergency services, economic development, and commercial activity. It also features a 10-foot-wide multi-use trail.
“MDOT is committed to addressing transportation infrastructure needs while working with partners at all levels of government,” Simmons said. “The new Lake Harbour Extension improves travel conditions and enhances connectivity throughout the area. I appreciate everyone involved in seeing this project through.”
The ceremony was held on the west end of the Lake Harbour Drive bridge in Ridgeland. Officials gathered with contractors, residents, and other stakeholders to celebrate the project. The total cost of the project was $28 million, which included right-of-way acquisition, utility relocation, and engineering fees.
