Cantrell Field Access Project Awarded Grand Conceptor from ACEC of Arkansas

CONWAY, AR — Because of the innovation and ingenuity displayed in the design of a four-lane I-40 overpass, a two-lane roundabout, and other enhancements in Conway, Arkansas, Garver was presented the Grand Conceptor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Arkansas. The Grand Conceptor is the organization’s highest yearly honor presented during its annual Engineering Excellence Awards gala and signifies it as the top engineering project in the state for that year.

The project was also honored with an EEA in the Transportation category during the event held at the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion in Little Rock, Arkansas. Four other Garver projects also won EEA awards in individual categories.

“The Cantrell Field Access project highlights what we like to do best at Garver, which is help our clients take advantage of their communities’ full potential,” said Garver Transportation Project Manager Richard Corbyn. “We were honored to play a role in making this area something the city can be proud of.”

The need for such improvements was created about a decade ago, when the city relocated a regional airport away from its downtown area. To help shoppers access a mixed-use development that is planned to be built where the airport once stood, Garver provided planning, traffic studies, environmental documentation, design, and construction engineering. In addition to the four-lane overpass and two-lane roundabout, Garver designed interchange improvements and a four-lane boulevard with bicycle and pedestrian access.

Garver completed concept development, planning, environmental, design, and bidding services for all three phases within a 12-month accelerated schedule.

“The project was a true team effort with over 70 Garver employees from four different business lines working together to complete the project on time and under budget,” said Garver Transportation Team Leader Todd Mueller.

Other Garver projects to earn EEA awards from ACEC/A included the Springdale WRF Peak Flow Study for Springdale Water Utilities; the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport ARFF/Vault Generator Upgrades; the Kaw Lake Water Supply Surveying for the City of Enid, Oklahoma; and the Dave Ward Drive Pedestrian Bridge for the City of Conway.
