JACKSON, MS — Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) District 7 Roadway Design Section Engineer Samuel Rust, PE, was recently named the Young Government Engineer of the Year on behalf of the Jackson Chapter of the Mississippi Engineering Society.
The award recognizes engineers under the age of 35 that have professional integrity and a reputation that extends beyond engineering. Eligibility includes engineers who are committed to improving public welfare, the advancement of the profession, and provide a service to mankind.
“I am honored and greatly appreciate the Mississippi Engineering Society along with our team here at MDOT for this prestigious recognition,” Rust said. “I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Mississippi by helping to design a safe and efficient highway system.”
Rust has been with MDOT for seven years. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering. As District 7 Roadway Design Section Engineer, Rust manages projects in the southwestern portion of the state as well as leading a team of four other young engineers who design projects across the state.
