FARMINGTON, CT — Nelson Reis has been recognized as the Associated General Contractors of Connecticut's (AGCCT) Project Manager of the Year during the Industry Awards Recognition ceremony. According to O&G Industries, Reis was nominated because of his impressive career and exceptional recent work on the Farmington High School project.
Also, George Givens, Superintendent of the FHS project, took runner-up for Construction Supervisor of the Year during the ceremony. Givens was nominated for his career in the construction industry, which spans 46 years, 28 of which have been with O&G Industries, where he has successfully overseen projects totaling over $895 million.
Reis has dedicated 27 years to the construction industry, with 23 of those years spent at O&G Industries. During his tenure at O&G, he has managed over $370 million worth of projects for the Building Group. He holds a degree in industrial technology/construction management from Central Connecticut State University and certifications in LEED AP - New Construction and Major Renovations, and American Society of Healthcare Engineering - Healthcare Construction, among others.
In recent years, Reis has taken on senior project management roles, overseeing large-scale projects such as the $146 million new construction of Farmington High School. Reis successfully managed this project within a compressed 24-month schedule. This 236,000-square-foot facility is the largest project ever undertaken by the Town of Farmington. Reis managed the construction and served as a community liaison, educating neighbors and fostering community engagement throughout the construction process. Farmington High School is his alma mater, and his daughters have also attended the school.
Russell Crist, Principal of Farmington High School, commended Reis' dedication and community involvement. “Over the last two years, Nelson has become a larger part of the Farmington Public Schools family," he said. "He is a familiar face at faculty meetings. He has gone above and beyond to make the construction of the new building accessible to students who may be interested in construction or the trades through the O&G Builds program. Nelson took the time to get to know us at Farmington High School, and because of that, our mission and values have been part of the entire process. The pride in the process was evident from the first day and continues to this day.”
