AUGUSTA, ME — The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) releases its 2026-2028 Work Plan, a three-year blueprint outlining 2,798 planned transportation projects totaling $4.5 billion in investments across Maine. The Work Plan details all planned operations, planning, design, construction, and maintenance activities the department expects to undertake over the next three calendar years.
“This document reflects thousands of hours of work across the department,” MaineDOT Commissioner Dale F. Doughty said. “We recognize that our transportation system touches every household and every business, every day. We plan carefully, adjust when necessary, and keep our focus where it belongs — on delivering a transportation network that serves Maine.”
The 2026–2028 Work Plan will:
- Pave 3,046 miles of state and state aid highways
- Rehabilitate or replace 235 bridges, including major preservation efforts for the Casco Bay Bridge and the Aroostook River Bridge
- Expand and enhance transit services statewide
- Advance active transportation projects in Sanford, Windham, Portland/Roux, and the Mountain Division “Trail Until Rail” segment
- Invest in ports, rail, ferries, and aviation, reflecting the multimodal nature of Maine’s economy
While federal funding uncertainty remains, MaineDOT will continue to plan ahead, adapt, and deliver projects that maintain and strengthen Maine’s transportation network.
