The new, three-story, 49,000-square-foot facility, which abuts the Hingham Shipyard, will house the Hingham Police and Fire Departments, the Emergency Operations Center, training rooms, detention area, administrative offices, locker rooms, break areas, and kitchens. A two-story, 94-space parking garage will be added, along with additional parking for the public. The building was designed with a flat roof and similar massing to be consistent with the buildings that surround the site.
Sustainable elements include a variable refrigerant flow HVAC system, which is a ductless, energy-efficient system used for both air conditioning and heating. Radiant heating will be installed in the concrete slab of the apparatus bays, which will allow the building to efficiently recover from the cold air that may rush in when a bay door opens.
