The project includes the construction of a new 158,000-square-foot early learning and elementary school facility, followed by abatement and demolition of the existing school building. The new campus will include four two-story classroom wings with classroom, cafeteria, media center, gym, kitchen, and servery areas. Site improvements will also be made including new underground utility services, parking lots, drives, and athletic fields.
The project is significant in that it is the first public school project in Connecticut built using Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) technology. Using ICFs also accelerates the speed of construction of the building; reduces building energy costs; increases soundproofing; and creates a durable, disaster resistant building.
The O&G Building Group is the construction manager, Tecton Architects is the project architect, and Arcadis is the owner’s project manager. The 18-month project will be completed in the fall of 2022.
O&G Industries is a nearly 100-year-old construction firm that is known for their road and bridge construction projects, materials division, building construction services, and masonry products line of business.
