The project included the construction of a new 190,000-square-foot facility — with abatement and demolition of the existing facility's administrative and classroom space. The existing middle school pool and gymnasium were not demolished, instead, will be renovated and turned over to the Middletown Parks and Recreation department as a stand-alone structure.
The new net-zero facility meets Connecticut High Performance School standards (LEED Silver equivalent) and includes STEAM classrooms, an innovation lab, auditorium, and multi-facility gym. The building will be over 28 percent more energy efficient than similar size buildings and includes rooftop solar arrays that will help offset the buildings energy usage.
O&G served as the construction manager for the project. TSKP served as the project architect.
O&G is known for its road and bridge construction projects; materials division that supplies asphalt, concrete, and aggregates to projects throughout the region; building construction services for commercial projects throughout the Northeast; and masonry products line of business that operates eight retail locations in Connecticut.
