With buildings dating back to 1875, construction began on the original 2100 building in August 2020 and is nearly complete, providing an opportunity for a revamp of the neighboring 2200 Northwestern Avenue building within the complex. The 2200 Building was used as the original Horlick headquarters office building and features a large clocktower. State and federal historical tax credits will help J. Jeffers to finance the $40-million Phase One of the campus project.
“The transformation of the 2100 Building has been remarkable. As we embark on the second building of this phase with the 2200 Building, we are proud to be another step closer to re-utilizing these long-abandoned buildings and this historic campus as a place for people to call home,” said Josh Jeffers of J. Jeffers.
“We are thrilled to break ground on another unique Horlick campus project with J. Jeffers and AG. We’re pleased with the outcomes of the 2100 project, and welcome this opportunity to continue to assist J. Jeffers in their efforts to revitalize this remarkable area,” said Dan Chovanec, CG Schmidt Vice President.
Surrounded by aging brick and climbing ivy, several key members of the Historic Horlick redevelopment team broke ground and celebrated the beginning of a key revitalization project for the city of Racine.
