SIOUX FALLS, SD — The Weitz Company, along with joint venture partner, Journey Construction, recently held an official groundbreaking celebration for Sioux Falls Regional Airport’s Concourse Expansion project. This project adds a new concourse and five gates, providing more space for passengers and preparing the facility for future growth to better serve the larger community.
"This is an investment in Sioux Falls, and in South Dakota, and we are happy and excited to be here," said Brian Mahlendorf, Vice President & General Manager at The Weitz Company "We look forward to working alongside our partners to bring this transformative project to life."
The Concourse Expansion will cover around 70,000 square feet. In addition to the five new gates, holdrooms and corresponding passenger boarding bridges will be added. This project will add passenger amenities, including larger restrooms, family restrooms with an adult changing station, an integrated mother’s room, and a reorientation and expansion of concession offerings. The project is anticipated to complete in spring 2027.
"There’s vision and leadership involved. Everything is aligning to get us where we are today to get a world-class facility with the team to carry it through," said Tony Wiseman, President of Journey Construction. "The hard work has been done over the last decade. We have the easy part now — building it and moving forward."
The Weitz Company's partners on this project include Sioux Falls Regional Airport, Journey Construction, Mead & Hunt, and CO-OP Architecture.
