JE Dunn’s Minneapolis office has seen growth over the past few years, achieving sales over $400 million in 2022 and 2023. The office has a diverse portfolio of projects, which can be attributed to the strategic and operational efforts made by its leadership team. The Minneapolis office has a record backlog highlighted by projects such as Union Stadium Village, MSP/Delta Airlines Gate Renovations, the Minnesota State Office Building, US Bank Stadium Security Upgrades, and several higher education and health care projects.
Over the past 21 years, Callinan has led many of JE Dunn’s local market sectors, including higher education, cultural, public, developer, corporate, and industrial. He has a track record in building teams to execute large complex projects. Notable projects include the Minnesota State Capitol restoration, the University of Minnesota Northrop Auditorium, Normandale Community College, Wagner SprayTech Corporate expansion, Minnesota Children’s Museum, Calyxt Corporate Headquarters, Carleton College, RH Gallery Southdale, and the American Swedish Institute.

Callinan said he enjoys helping clients understand how Design Phase Services can drive value and ensure client satisfaction; for example, how choosing the correct procurement process can impact a project’s success. He also said he enjoys the technical problem-solving aspects of complex projects, from ensuring the proper execution of a museum building envelope to ensuring the holdings will be unaffected by the extremes of the Minnesota climate. According to Callinan, he has earned a “Ph.D. in stone restoration” by managing the process from quarry to carving to installation on multiple historic buildings.

Callinan's work has been the recipient of many awards, including two Awards of Excellence, a Best Green/Sustainable Project award, a Best New Project over $10 Million award, two Choice awards, and a Project of The Year award from the Minnesota Construction Association, as well as four Finance & Commerce Top Project awards, awards from the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota in the categories of Restoration/Rehabilitation and Sustainable Design, and adaptive reuse awards from the heritage preservation associations of both Minneapolis and St. Paul.
The Minnesota State Capitol restoration alone has received an American Institute of Architects Architecture award, a Finance & Commerce Top Project award, the American Public Works Association Public Works Project of the Year award, an ENR Midwest Best Government/Public Project Award, the Marble Institute of America’s Grand Pinnacle award, and an award for excellence in construction quality interior plaster from the Association of Wall and Ceiling Industry.
