WASHINGTON, D.C. — Aysegul Gogus, Ph.D., PE, SE, joins HGA as an Associate Vice President and Associate Principal in Structural Engineering in the Washington, D.C., office. She will work with engineering teams and business development firmwide to expand the office’s in-house seismic services.

Gogus has more than 10 years of structural engineering experience specializing in seismic assessment and retrofit of existing buildings, seismic design of reinforced concrete and steel structures, and performance-based seismic design.

Before HGA, she was a Structural Engineer at Arup in Los Angeles, where she provided seismic design insight on a range of project types across arts, culture, aviation, education, government, commercial, hotels and leisure, and infrastructure markets.

Gogus has contributed to industry knowledge through academic research, speaking engagements, and national committee work on seismic topics. She has presented at numerous conferences, meetings, and panels.

Gogus has a Ph.D. and Master of Science in structural and earthquake engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey.

She is a member of the American Concrete Institute, American Society of Civil Engineers, Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, and Earthquake Engineering Research Institute.
