Henderson Engineers Welcomes Industry Veteran Sutherland to Lead Client Relations
Henderson Engineers is a national building systems design firm. Founded in 1970, the company has nearly 900 employees including 215 PEs across 12 offices in New York City; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Tampa, Florida; Nashville, Tennessee; Bentonville, Arkansas; Dallas, Texas; Houston, Texas; Kansas City, Missouri; Phoenix, Arizona; Las Vegas, Nevada; Los Angeles, California; and headquarters in Lenexa, Kansas.
Henderson Building Solutions, a wholly-owned construction management subsidiary of Henderson Engineers, focuses on engineer-led design-build projects and commissioning. Backed by the Henderson national network, the company uses real-time data, leverage invested capital, offers investment-grade budgets and delivers a functioning system. Henderson Building Solutions offers single-source solutions for turnkey building systems projects.

Sutherland comes to Henderson with more than a decade of experience in the AEC industry. He spent the past nearly nine years with McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. In 2013, he was promoted to Director of Business Development and tasked with opening the Kansas City, Missouri, office for the 18th largest commercial construction firm in the United States. He contributed his business development efforts in conjunction with the rest of the team to generate $450 million in sales and a growth in staff to 50 full-time employees.
From 2010 to 2013, Sutherland was a Marketing and Business Development Coordinator for McCarthy in his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri. He was responsible for all marketing efforts for the science and technology business unit of McCarthy’s central region, which averaged more than $100 million annually.
Sutherland cut his teeth in the industry as a Marketing Coordinator for HOK in St. Louis from 2008 to 2010, effectively promoting architectural services. In joining Henderson, he has now seen the AEC industry from all angles, giving him a unique perspective in setting strategy for client service.
In 2003, Sutherland graduated from Culver-Stockton College where he was a member of Lambda Pi Eta, the national communications honor society. He has served on the board of the Kansas City Area Healthcare Engineers and Sunflower House since 2016.
He has also been active in leadership roles for the Society of Marketing Professional Services chapters in Kansas City and St. Louis, as well as the Kansas City chapter of the Design-Build Institute of America. A resident of Olathe, Kansas, Sutherland serves on the Olathe Chamber of Commerce board, Olathe Planning Commission and Olathe Board of Zoning Appeals.
