“This is an impressive accomplishment for our team and a testament to the safety culture here at Sundt,” said Sundt Intermountain Area Manager Jasen Bennie. “We are honored to be recognized for our commitment to safety and the safe choices our employee-owners make every day.”
Sundt earned the Diamond Safety Award because it had more than five million worked man-hours at an incident rate of 50 percent below the national level. The company garnered the same recognition last year. In September, Sundt completed the Utah Department of Transportation Interstate 80 westbound highway improvement project in Tooele County six months ahead of schedule. The project improved traffic flow between State Road 201 and State Road 36 in western Salt Lake and eastern Tooele Counties.
Sundt’s safety program takes a people-based approach to why it is important to work safe. Beyond comprehensive safety training for its employees, Sundt emphasizes great safety choices to continually drive down its OSHA recordable incident rate and send all its employees home safe every day. The company is the only contractor to be recognized twice as the AGC Grand Award winner for safety.
For more than two decades, Sundt has expanded and improved infrastructure in the Beehive State. The company completed the Redwood Road and I-215 Interchange project and finished six months early on the I-80 westbound highway improvement project. In 2019, Sundt broke ground on the new Water Reclamation Facility for Salt Lake City’s Department of Public Utilities located in northern Salt Lake City.
