McCarthy Celebrates Completion of Vantage Data Centers’ AZ13 Data Center and Topping Out of AZ14

GOODYEAR, AZ — General contractor McCarthy Building Companies recently completed the fully commissioned AZ13 building for Vantage Data Centers, a global provider of hyperscale data center campuses. AZ13 is the third of five planned data centers at Vantage’s AZ1 campus in Goodyear to be constructed and delivered by McCarthy’s Mission Critical team. The first two, AZ11 and AZ12, were delivered in July 2023 and March 2024, respectively. The team is simultaneously celebrating the topping out of AZ14 on the same campus, which is expected to complete in summer 2026.

“It’s exciting to celebrate the milestones of completing our AZ13 data center and the topping out of our AZ14 facility,” said Dan Kinsey, Vice President of Construction, North America for Vantage Data Centers. “We appreciate our partnership with McCarthy, the trades, and the Goodyear community to successfully deliver these achievements with a focus on sustainability, safety, and ultimately meeting the requirements of our customers.”

When fully developed, the 50-acre campus will offer hyperscalers and large cloud providers 176 MW of critical IT load across five data centers totaling more than 1 million square feet. Vantage is investing more than $1.5 billion into the development, which is expected to employ approximately 3,000 construction and technology individuals throughout its lifecycle.

Many of the Goodyear campus’ features are based on Vantage’s standardized campus blueprint, emphasizing sustainable construction practices. The campus is designed to use virtually no water for cooling, instead employing a closed-loop chilled water system that allows for reduced energy use based on outside ambient temperature. The campus is on track to achieve Green Globe certification (both AZ11 and AZ12 facilities have already received the certification).

“We are proud to be handing over another fully commissioned data center to Vantage and for the progress our Mission Critical team is making on these facilities at the AZ1 campus,” said David Mazzarelli, Project Director with the Mission Critical team at McCarthy Building Companies. “The collaborative design-build partnership we have with Vantage’s team and our community partners allows us to work hand-in-hand to deliver these projects safely, quickly, and ready for service so they can immediately begin serving Vantage’s customers. It’s pretty exciting to be part of Goodyear’s economic growth.”

Last year, the Vantage Data Centers expansion received a VPP STAR designation, which is the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) highest program of safety recognition across all federal OSHA and state OSHA offices. It recognizes employers and workers in private and federal workplaces who have exemplified effective safety and health management systems that achieve injury and illness rates more than 50 percent below the national average. To date, there have been zero lost time or recordable incidents on the projects that McCarthy is constructing for Vantage.

Key construction design and trade partners on AZ13 include Corgan Architects, Rosendin Electric, Southland Industries, and Amfab Steel.
