Autonomous Delivery Vehicle Company Nuro Breaks Ground on Assembly Facility in North Las Vegas

NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV — Construction is officially underway on autonomous delivery company Nuro’s advanced assembly facility that, combined with its nearby testing facility, is expected to have a $2.2-billion economic impact over the next decade.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Mayor John Lee, Ward 2 Councilwoman Pamela Goynes-Brown, and the City Council welcomed Nuro to North Las Vegas. The facility will be located on the northwest corner of Craig Road and Bruce Street in Ward 2.

“Cutting-edge companies, including Nuro, recognize the benefits and strategic value of operating in North Las Vegas, where we are leading the way in diversifying the economy of Southern Nevada and enabling businesses to develop and grow,” Lee said. “North Las Vegas continues to recruit and attract companies that will shape the future of our region and community for decades to come.”

Nuro is the latest innovative company to announce an expansion into North Las Vegas. The facility will span more than 100,000 square feet on 10 acres, including 30,000 square feet of corporate office space. At this facility, Nuro will transform electric vehicles manufactured by BYD USA into smart, fully autonomous delivery vehicles that will be ready to hit the road to deliver a variety of goods directly to homes.

"Nuro’s vehicles will be entirely assembled in America, right here in North Las Vegas, and we’ll be creating an initial 200 specialized careers that will positively impact many Nevada families and their communities," said Tim Berger, Nuro’s Head of Real Estate and Workplace. "To fill these roles, Nuro is looking to partner with local universities, community colleges, and career training programs to build a talent pipeline, specifically targeting individuals traditionally underrepresented in current technology roles."

As the City of North Las Vegas continues to recruit businesses and high-tech employers like Nuro to North Las Vegas, the Mayor and City Council’s strategy to transform the economy of the city and the region is paying off by creating permanent, high-paying jobs, increasing North Las Vegas’ tax base, and attracting innovative technologies and processes, which in turn allows the city to provide additional services to residents.

Nuro expects to begin operations at its North Las Vegas facility in 2022.
