SALT LAKE CITY, UT — The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) selected the Sundt/Ames joint venture to deliver the new US-89 (300 W) Pedestrian Crossing. The project will support the ongoing revitalization of downtown Salt Lake City, Utah.

The progressive design-build project includes concept development, design, and construction of a pedestrian bridge plaza, along with major infrastructure improvements to enhance safety and connectivity. The scope includes lowering the existing roadway and relocating utilities, including historic infrastructure dating back to the 1800s.

“Our goal is to create a destination that strengthens connections and adds long-term value to the community,” said Jasen Bennie, Senior Vice President and Intermountain Regional Manager for Sundt. “Collaborating closely with UDOT and local partners allows us to deliver a thoughtful solution that responds to the needs of both the site and the city.”

Located adjacent to the Delta Center, the project is expected to play a prominent role during the 2034 Winter Olympics, with the site anticipated to host medal ceremonies and related activities. The bridge plaza is envisioned as a signature public space within Salt Lake City’s growing sports, entertainment, and cultural district, designed to support both daily activity and large-scale events.

Preconstruction is currently underway and construction is anticipated to start in 2027.
