An exciting event aimed at addressing the growing need for construction workers in the infrastructure industry was held May 11 at the Texas Fair Grounds in Dallas. Construction Career Day was a collaborative effort between the Texas Department of Transportation, AGC of Texas, and Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas.

The event provided an opportunity for 200 student attendees from 17 local school districts and trade training organizations through the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area to explore career options in the construction industry and connect with infrastructure employers. The job fair and career exploration event were aimed at showcasing the industry's diversity, career options, and the latest construction equipment.

With the construction industry experiencing a significant shortage of skilled workers, Construction Career Day was a crucial step towards closing the skills gap. The event aimed to inspire students to consider a career in infrastructure construction and provide them with a better understanding of the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the industry.

Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to learn about the different careers in the industry, from project management and engineering to skilled trades. The event was designed to be interactive, and students could participate in various activities to learn more about different aspects of the industry.

One of the highlights of the event was the opportunity to see and operate the latest construction equipment brought to the site by local equipment dealers. Students had the chance to see first-hand how heavy equipment operators work and even had a go at operating the machinery themselves. This hands-on experience was an excellent way to demonstrate the importance of equipment safety and proper usage.

The event was a resounding success, with many students expressing interest in pursuing a career in infrastructure construction. Construction Career Day was an important step towards addressing the skills gap in the industry and highlighting the opportunities available to young people.
