KLJ Honored with Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award in South Dakota

PIERRE, SD — KLJ Engineering (KLJ) announces that KLJ, the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Transportation Program, and Loiseau Construction, Inc. were recently recognized by the American Council of Engineering Companies of South Dakota (ACEC/SD) and the South Dakota Engineering Society (SDES). The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Route 7 to US Hwy 83 Improvement Project, Phase 1 was honored with the 2022 SDES Black Hills Central Chapter’s Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award.

The BIA Route 7 Improvement Project was designed to meet or exceed current highway safety standards with the incorporation of improved pedestrian and bicyclist infrastructure, reconfigured intersections to increase safety of the traveling public, newly designed approaches for better access, and installation of new roadway and pathway lighting. Additionally, KLJ secured a $14.6 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grant to help fund the project, which reconstructed six miles of BIA Route 7 and 2.4 miles of 269th Avenue in Todd County, South Dakota.

KLJ performed the topographic and cadastral survey, engineering design, environmental resources surveys, environmental permits and clearances, and right-of-way platting and acquisition assistance for the project.

Each year ACEC/SD and SDES jointly recognize engineering achievements that have captured the innovative and dynamic spirit of a profession dedicated to public service.
