PEMC and Machyne will focus on workforce training opportunities in the core disciplines of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM). The program will engage youth ages 13 and up in maker curricula, and will expand to include multi-generational programming for adults.
“We are thrilled to offer innovative STEAM programs in a safe and supportive environment for teens and their families,” said Laura Dodds, county extension director at PEMC. “Our programs are designed to spark interest in the college and career pathways that are vital to filling Indiana’s in-demand talent needs.”
PEMC will occupy one of Machyne’s eight private studio spaces, and utilize the makerspace’s 15,000 square feet of space. This space features cutting-edge tools, digital prototyping resources and a media lab.
“As a makerspace, Machyne can be many things to many people,” said Dr. Alex Bandar, executive director at Machyne. “We’re a prototyping lab for startups; experiential education space for students; a place to fine-tune new skills for people exploring new career opportunities; an art studio for creatives seeking to bring amazing things to life.”

Machyne is committed to connecting with local students and residents of the 16 Tech Innovation District neighborhoods including offering discounted memberships to the makerspace.
“We will be able to empower people of all backgrounds and interests through a combination of Machyne’s resources and PEMC’s incredible knowledge, experience, and network,” said Bandar.
Machyne is located in the heart of the 16 Tech Innovation District in HqO, the innovation hub. HqO boasts private office space operated by 1776 and the AMP, an artisan marketplace featuring local artisans and food vendors.
“The partnership between Machyne and PEMC thoughtfully connects young people and adults to meaningful STEAM programming,” said Bob Coy, president and CEO of 16 Tech Community Corporation. “We have the ability to build a bigger and brighter ecosystem by investing in individuals and fostering inclusive spaces where they can find new passions, develop new ideas, and hone new skills.”
16 Tech Community Corporation funded a portion of the PEMC programming through its Community Investment Fund in December 2020.
