INDIANAPOLIS – In response to the evolving needs of its clients and industry partners, F.A. Wilhelm has launched a new Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) division.
Through extensive discussions with clients and other contractors, it became evident to company stakeholers that there is a significant demand for additional contractors equipped to handle the specialized needs of HDD projects.
Wilhelm’s HDD division aims to:
- Increase the company's visibility and presence in the HDD market
- Strengthen relationships with the firm's current clients
- Deliver the highest quality service to customers
- Enhance internal contributions and capabilities within Wilhelm
Wilhelm's new division specializes in installing pipe using trenchless excavation technologies. This innovative approach serves various applications, including water, sewer, storm, sump, and conduit piping. The firm's trenchless solutions are ideal for scenarios where traditional open trench excavation is impractical.
Directional drilling offers several key advantages:
- Non-Disruptive Installation: Wilhelm can install utilities beneath roads, including interstates, without closing lanes, and under waterways like the White and Wabash Rivers, as well as beneath parking lots that need to remain accessible.
- Deep Installations: For utilities requiring deep installations (up to 30 feet below grade) where open trench methods are unsafe or uneconomical, directional drilling is the perfect solution.
- Space Efficiency: On projects with limited space, Wilhelm's methods allow the company to keep vital work areas open and operational, avoiding the disruptions caused by trench digging.
- Advanced Planning: This new division uses sophisticated software to thoroughly plan work before breaking ground. This preplanning helps prevent delays caused by unforeseen field conditions, a common issue with less prepared subcontractors.
