FORT WAYNE, IN – Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for its highly anticipated I AM THIRD Arena, which, in combination with a building addition, is set to transform the south wing of Martin Hall into a state-of-the-art sports facility. This milestone event marked the beginning of a new chapter in IWU's commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics.
On Friday, October 18th, IWU coaches, players, members of the Board of Trustees, Marion, IN community leaders, and Wildcat basketball alumni joined together to celebrate the commencement of construction that promises to elevate the university's athletic prowess and campus experience.
Designed in partnership with Fort Wayne-based architecture, engineering and interior design firm Design Collaborative, the I AM THIRD Arena emphasizes an ethos central to IWU's basketball teams – putting God first, others second, and oneself third. This philosophy has been instrumental in the Wildcats' success, fostering a culture of discipleship alongside athletic excellence. The Wildcats have been national contenders in the NAIA for several decades, leading to multiple national championships.
“Designed to enhance the student-athlete experience, the I AM THIRD Arena will serve as a hub for both IWU athletes and their supporters,” said Quinn O’Heeney, Senior Project Manager at Design Collaborative. “Incorporating the I am Third philosophy into the arena’s design promotes a distinctive sense of unity and teamwork among everyone who enters the facility.”
The 80,000-square-foot renovation and addition will incorporate a dynamic basketball arena and practice gym; modern suites, a weight room, and locker rooms; and essential athletic support spaces, including concessions and offices.
