In 2022, Indiana’s architecture, engineering, and construction community has remained devoted to producing high-quality projects across the state.

This installment of ‘Improving our Built Environment’ showcases projects which have recently hosted groundbreaking or ribbon-cutting ceremonies.

The Veridus Group, Town of Plainfield – The Prewitt
The Town of Plainfield recently celebrated the official opening of The Prewitt along with the Plainfield Chamber of Commerce, The Veridus Group, Inc., the Keller-Huff Group and other community members.

The historic Prewitt Theatre, located in the heart of Downtown Plainfield, was acquired by the Town of Plainfield in 2018. The Town restored the historic marquee and conducted a feasibility study on the building. After opening a Request for Proposal (RFP) process, the Keller-Huff Group approached the Town to show interest in redeveloping the property.

“Our group is looking forward to enhancing the historic fabric of our great community,” said Doug Huff, co-owner of Keller Huff Restaurant Group. “We are committed to making this project an anchor in Town, and to create and maintain a quality dining experience second to none in the area. Patrick Keller and I have a proven track record as local developers and will develop this artistic event venue and upscale restaurant as a local and regional attraction for individuals and businesses.”

The Prewitt Theatre opened in 1927 and would eventually be renamed the Village Theatre until it closed in 2005. The theatre has sat vacant since. The Town is excited to see the Plainfield staple redeveloped for visitors and residents to create new memories in the unique building.

American Structurepoint provided architectural, structural, and civil services for this transformational project that will improve the quality of life for Daviess County by attracting talent to the region and creating high-paying jobs for Hoosiers.

Governor Eric Holcomb said Indiana has a rich tradition of advanced manufacturing that continues to push new technologies and innovations forward. He also said the announcement solidifies our Semiconductor Corridor strategy. With a growing microelectronics and CHIP industry, Indiana will be at the forefront of creating critical components to ensure both economic and national security.

The Hagerman Group – Boone County Justice Center Expansion
Boone County and The Hagerman Group recently broke ground on the Boone County Justice Center expansion. This $60 million facility is focused on keeping the second fasting growing county in the state of Indiana safer by providing necessary rehab and treatment for inmates.

The expanded justice center will include 102 additional jail beds plus 100 Community Correction beds for offenders on work release or those transitioning out of incarceration. Boone County expects the facility to open in 2024.

“This was one of the most cost-effective projects we could do and I’m grateful to see it move forward,” Boone County Commissioner President Jeff Wolfe said. “The new Justice Center will ensure our continued advancement in the overall public safety across our community.”

MKM architecture + design – Bowen Health Clinic

The new Bowen Health Clinic in Columbia City, Indiana across from Parkview Whitley Hospital broke ground on November 14th. The clinic will offer primary care services, along with its mental health and addiction recovery services, so patients may have all their healthcare needs met under one roof.

City of Fishers – Andretti Autosport Global Headquarters
Andretti Autosport recently broke ground on its new global headquarters here Fishers. Mayor Scott Fadness joined Governor Eric Holcomb, Indiana Economic Development Corporation Secretary Bradley B. Chambers, Marissa Andretti, Michael Andretti, and Mario Andretti to celebrate this momentous day.

“Today we bring together innovation and performance, future and legacy, and commerce and experience in such a way that only the Andretti family can,” said Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness. “When the Andretti Global campus comes to fruition, we will have gained not just an amazing destination and workplace in Fishers but a true community partner that has a shared vision for the next chapter of our city.”

krM Architecture – Westfield Washington Public Library and Westfield Washington Trustees offices
krM Architecture and the City of Westfield recently celebrated the groundbreaking of the Westfield Washington Public Library and the offices of the Westfield Washington Trustees.

The facility will feature high-quality community amenities, located at the corner of Park and Poplar Street in the Grand Millennium Center. It provides space for all the services and book collection loved at the library today, but now also expands its ability to host more community programs, larger events, more diverse educational opportunities, greater access to technology, and so much more. This has been a dream of the library for more than a decade.

Also serving as the new home for the offices of the Westfield Trustees, this will allow for shared efficiencies between the library and the trustees by consolidating building services providing opportunities for shared programming and other resources.
