Crawford, Murphy & Tilly Announces Adam Burns as New Firm President

Adam Burns
Adam Burns
INDIANAPOLIS – Crawford, Murphy & Tilly, Inc. has announced Adam Burns, PE, MBA, as the firm’s seventh President, effective Feb. 24, 2024. Throughout his 22 years at CMT, Burns has served in diverse and progressively responsible roles, including transportation engineer, project manager, group manager, business development lead, and executive vice president.

Burns succeeds William Bailey, PE, SE, who began his tenure as CMT President in 2018. Bailey continues to lead the firm as CEO and Chair of the board of directors.

“With strengths that lie at the intersection of deep infrastructure expertise, demonstrated project and people leadership, and exceptional business knowledge, Adam is well-positioned to serve CMT as President,” Bailey said. “But perhaps above all, Adam is a life-long learner who can build great teams, communicate goals and expectations to those teams, and provide appropriate autonomy and accountability to encourage individual personal growth and successful outcomes. On behalf of CMT, I’m proud to congratulate Adam on his new role. We are all deeply appreciative of the continued value and vision he brings to our team, and we look forward to the impact Adam and his many collaborators across the firm will have on CMT in the years to come.”

“It is a great honor to follow in the footsteps of Bill Bailey, Dan Meckes, and so many other distinguished CMT leaders. They’ve set the bar high, ensuring that CMT continues to deliver quality infrastructure, foster a culture of care within our teams and communities, and challenge ourselves to innovate and improve as professionals and leaders,” Burns said. “Moving forward, I’m particularly excited about expanding our abilities to internally collaborate through CMT’s markets, geographies, and Communities of Practice. Given the wealth of talent and camaraderie across our firm, I cannot wait to see how much we can accomplish together.”

With CMT since 2001, Burns began his career as a transportation engineer in the firm’s St. Louis, MO, office. In 2005, Burns relocated to CMT’s Indianapolis office to support the expansion of the firm’s footprint. Since then, CMT’s presence in the state has experienced substantial growth. In addition to his responsibilities at CMT, Burns has served in leadership capacities across industry groups including ACEC Indiana; American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Metropolitan Indianapolis Branch; and Bradley University’s Innovations in Construction and Design Board of Directors. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Bradley University and an MBA from the University of Missouri – St. Louis.
