INDIANAPOLIS, IN – BSA LifeStructures (BSA), a nationally recognized architecture and engineering firm, recently announced the promotion of Samuel (Sam) Jackson to the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective immediately. In this role, Jackson will continue to develop BSA’s national expertise and growth, creating an enhanced experience for the company's valued clients.

Jackson joined BSA in 1998 as a graduate electrical engineer and has held various roles including principal and regional director of the Indianapolis studio. In 2016, Jackson was elected to the BSA Board of Directors where he has brought inventive ideas and unique perspectives. In 2017, he was promoted to director of engineering. His vision for growing and strengthening the engineering team has advanced BSA in expertise and knowledge.

“I'm excited about Sam joining the executive leadership team as COO,” said BSA President Tim Spence. “He is a trusted leader who is respected by clients and co-workers alike in Indianapolis and across our seven studios because of his calm demeanor and his can-do attitude. Additionally, Sam played an instrumental role in leading BSA’s design team during the Indianapolis’ Sidney and Louis Eskenazi Hospital.”

Sam was the engineering project lead for Sidney and Louis Eskenazi Hospital, a 1.3-million square foot hospital and health campus. The 37-acre campus, which is one of the world’s largest LEED Gold healthcare campuses, includes a 315-bed hospital, 100-bed emergency department, 275-room outpatient center, and a faculty office building. BSA was the Engineer of Record for the Hospital and Care Center and provided BSA’s full range of services including engineering, architecture, interior design, and planning on the Fifth Third Faculty Office Building.

“I love working at BSA, mostly because of the talented and dedicated staff. Since joining BSA over 20 years ago, I’ve dedicated my career to improving lives,” said Jackson. “As COO, I now have the opportunity to help continue the mission others have started. I’m excited to start this journey and can’t wait to strengthen the connection with our healing, learning, and discovery practices as we help clients address complex challenges.”

He is a licensed professional engineer in 27 states, NCEES Recordholder, LEED Accredited Professional and Purdue University Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certified.

The American College of Healthcare Architects (ACHA) also announced recently that Spence has been elevated to the Council of Fellows. The Council of Fellows was founded to advance the unique qualities of the profession of healthcare architecture by demonstrating and celebrating achievements of national significance. Fellowship is one of the highest honors bestowed upon a certificant of the ACHA and is awarded to one who has shown distinction in fulfilling one specific Category of Nomination of their work and has demonstrated a nominee’s individual impact and influence in healthcare facility architecture.

Spence joins the ranks of the 79 distinguished fellows and is one of nearly 400 colleagues in the United States and Canada who are certified health care architects. ACHA requires its certificate holders to work towards the improvement of healthcare architecture on behalf of the public, to practice in an ethical manner, to maintain high standards of specialized continuing education, and to add to the body of knowledge.
