The Landing, preserving seven historic buildings, received a Preservation Partnership Award. The Award recognizes the success and impact of the project. The mixed-use redevelopment re-envisioned The Landing, one of the oldest commercial districts in the region, as a destination to work, live, and play. Renovated commercial spaces line the streets with new restaurants and boutiques. Above the revived streetscape, commercial offices and residential space occupy the upper floors of the restored historic buildings.
The Eckhart Public Library received an Outreach Award. The Outreach Award, new this year, highlights top historic preservation projects regionally. In 2017, the Eckhart Public Library received extensive interior damage due to a fire caused by arson. The library was renovated and restored, preserving the historic features of the building while providing updates to better serve library patrons.
The Auburn City Steakhouse also received an Outreach Award. The former hardware store was reimagined as a restaurant destination in downtown Auburn, IN. The renovation preserved the historic character of the building by restoring the original oak stairs, brick walls, wood floors, and tin ceiling.
