In his role, Choi will champion design excellence initiatives for the local office and region, helping to advance successful, sustainable design solutions for clients in the health, science, education, and civic sectors. Partnering with Managing Principal Grace Rappe, he will promote an active design culture in the studio and mentor and develop junior design staff.
“I’m excited to join HDR and look forward to embracing the culture in the Chicago architecture studio, which embodies simple yet thoughtful design,” Choi said.
Choi started his career in Chicago and returned to the city three years ago, after spending seven years in Washington D.C. Over the course of his career, he has taken a special interest in designing buildings that represent substantial societal investment in the urban core of cities around the world. He has worked on numerous projects within the Chicago city limits, ranging from 3,000 square feet to 30 acres. His design ethos is rooted in creating spaces that animate the human experience and transform design concepts from ideas to reality.
“We are thrilled to have Jae join us in the Chicago architecture studio,” Rappe said. “Jae embraces the opportunity to work on projects locally and improve our community, and he is committed to mentoring and building a team of designers that prioritizes an interdisciplinary, collaborative process.”
