At CONEXPO/CON-AGG 2026, Caterpillar not only showcased new equipment options, but also crowned the winners of its two major global competitions — the Global Operator Challenge and the Global Dealer Technician Challenge. Both challenges highlighted the essential role technicians and machine operators play in powering progress around the world.
“As global infrastructure demand increases, access to skilled technicians and operators is a critical issue for our industry,” said Caterpillar CEO Joe Creed. “By investing in training and upskilling, we’re helping to build the workforce our industry depends on and staying true to our mission of solving our customers' toughest challenges.”
Since the spring of 2025, thousands of operators from more than 40 countries competed in the Caterpillar Global Operator Challenge. The competition highlighted the mastery required to safely operate Cat machines with precision, efficiency, and technological sophistication through a series of challenges that tested material loading, object handling, precision placement, and advanced machine control using wheel loaders, excavators, and dozers.
Nine operators from around the world advanced to the finals in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Caterpillar crowned Brian Hayden — a Milton CAT customer from Hayden Excavating representing the U.S. — as the 2026 Global Operator Challenge World Champion.
Hailing from Wells, Maine, Hayden built his skills as an operator on the job, growing up in his family business. He will receive either a $10,000 cash prize or an equivalent value trip.

Caterpillar’s inaugural Global Dealer Technician Challenge showcased the high-tech, high-impact nature of today’s technician careers. The competition spotlighted the agility, diagnostic expertise, and problem-solving skills required to keep customers’ equipment running at peak performance through a series of challenges in which technicians had to accurately diagnose and make repairs under intense time pressure.
Of the thousands of technicians who competed in events around the world, only 10 advanced to the finals. The 2026 Global Dealer Technician Challenge Champion is Tom March from England representing Finning UK.
The two global competitions are part of Caterpillar’s workforce development initiatives designed to elevate skilled trades, expand training opportunities, and inspire the next generation of technicians and operators, the company said.
To add to existing efforts, in spring 2026, Caterpillar will launch a five-year, $25 million innovation challenge. As part of the Caterpillar Building the Future Workforce Initiative, the innovation prize will identify, test, and scale solutions that help workers develop the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly digital and autonomous environment. The challenge is part of the $100 million commitment Caterpillar pledged in 2025 to help equip the future workforce with the skills they need.

At CONEXPO-CON/AGG, Caterpillar launched the new 319 hydraulic excavator on its Next Generation platform. Slotting between the 315 and 325 models and coming just a year after the 319’s first appearance at bauma, the new model is built around a wider, 9.2-foot undercarriage designed to provide extra stability. That added stability, enhanced by the 7.2-foot track gauge, boosts lifting capacity.
To enhance safety, the 319 includes an optional 360-degree camera, Cat Detect to alert an operator to the presence of people around the machine, and multiple track-shoe options to help ensure smooth operation across varying conditions.
The new TUL100 compact utility loader marks the first entry for Caterpillar in this market segment. It features a rated 1,000-pound operating capacity to deliver the performance needed for big jobs, while offering 36-inch and 42-inch track width options.
Powered by the 24-horsepower Cat C1.1 turbo diesel engine, the TUL100 features a robust hydraulic system. The TUL100 will offer a range of attachments, including augers, power box rakes, trenchers, buckets, and forks. Intuitive, multifunction joysticks and customizable settings allow operators to fine-tune machine performance for a range of skill levels.

Planned commercial availability of the new TUL100 in North America is early 2027.
The new 253 CTL provides a blend of power and compact size that complements the existing lineup between a 249D3 and a 255. With similar operational specs to the 259D3, the 253 is set apart by its redesigned undercarriage that features rigid, frame-mounted axles combined with the next-generation, one-piece undercarriage frame. This design enhances traction and stability in varied conditions, with a focused improvement in grading performance.
An electronically controlled Cat 3.3B turbo diesel engine meets U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final and Stage V emission standards. The 253 comes standard with 15-inch, C-pattern tracks. Its one-piece, sealed, and pressurized cab with adjustable joystick pods provides a clean and quiet operating environment. Standard features such as dual self-level, return-to-dig/attachment positioner, and float allow operators to efficiently perform repetitive tasks. Creep and two-speed are standard.
Planned commercial availability for the new 253 CTL in North America is the second half of 2026.

Caterpillar also announced the 150 and 160 motor graders as the latest models to shift to its Next Generation platform with smarter controls, improved efficiency, and a redesigned cab. Joystick steering controls will be standard on the Cat 160 and optional on the Cat 150.
The Cat 150 with joystick option will launch in European countries in the second half of 2026. Full launch for all configurations and regions will follow.
Replacing the Cat 300.9D, the Cat 301 CR micro mini excavator features a compact radius design, providing a single configuration with a 71.7-inch dig depth. The 1-ton platform offers seat-mounted pilot controls, higher travel speeds with two-speed, folding rollover protective structure, first and second auxiliary hydraulic options, new gauge cluster, and improved stability.
Caterpillar will also launch a manual coupler and a new A13 auger for the 1-ton platform machine. Planned commercial availability for the 301 CR is early 2027.
