JE Dunn and Georgia-Pacific Hold Topping out Ceremony for $425M Dixie Facility

JACKSON, TN — JE Dunn, Middle Tennessee’s largest general contractor, and Georgia-Pacific, a manufacturer and marketer of consumer products, held a topping out ceremony for the placement of the final structural beam at the project site of Georgia-Pacific’s new $425 million Dixie facility. The new 900,000-square-foot plant will be the first new Dixie facility since 1991 and is the single largest investment in Jackson’s history. It is slated to be finished by the summer of 2024 and will create more than 220 jobs in the Jackson region when fully operational.

“The new Dixie facility is one of the most advanced industrial facilities JE Dunn has ever built,” said Erik Magsamen, Vice President and Project Executive, JE Dunn. “Throughout the new Dixie facility, you will find modern technologies that are all connected and work harmoniously with one another to bring new levels of efficiency and ease to day-to-day operations. We’d like to thank Georgia-Pacific for entrusting the JE Dunn team with this historic build and for being a true partner on this project.”

Spanning across 241 acres, the new Dixie facility will produce disposable tableware products — such as plates and bowls. The facility is fully air-conditioned and features printer equipment, associated plate-forming converting assets, advanced automation technology, and connected control systems. It will include manufacturing, warehousing, and rail dock areas, as well as maintenance shops for equipment. A separate, but connected, 16,000-square-foot office area is also included.

As a greenfield project, JE Dunn moved 390,000 yards of dirt and poured 52,000 cubic yards of concrete. The JE Dunn team has also designed and engineered a 22,000-foot wastewater pre-treatment system with nearly half a mile of underground plumbing and an IT and electrical infrastructure that utilizes 58,000 feet of conduit, totaling in more than 110 miles of cable.
