Skanska Launches Construction Management Building Blocks Program in Atlanta, Georgia

ATLANTA, GA — Skanska has launched its Construction Management Building Blocks (CMBB) program in Atlanta, Georgia, bringing its subcontractor engagement initiative to more than two dozen local firms.

The free coaching and education initiative is designed to help small, local construction firms build capacity, strengthen operations, and position themselves for long-term success when working with large general contractors. Participants learn from Skanska and industry professionals who provide insight into what it takes to run a successful business in the construction industry.

“The CMBB program accelerates our relationship building with small business leaders in our region and offers participants tools they can leverage to run their businesses successfully,” said Matt Frey, General Manager, Skanska Atlanta operations. “We want to ensure these businesses feel supported and have access to the resources they need to thrive.”

A comprehensive curriculum covers essential topics including certification basics, competitive bidding and estimating, insurance requirements, prequalification processes, marketing strategies, project scheduling, billing procedures, safety standards, and project execution and closeout workstream tactics.

Since its inception in 2006, Skanska's CMBB program has graduated more than 800 companies nationwide and has generated approximately $740 million in contracts between Skanska and program participants. The program aims to celebrate diversity, enrich partnerships, and strengthen communities by providing essential information and addressing barriers to success in the construction industry.

Skanska’s CMBB program combines virtual learning sessions with in-person networking opportunities, allowing participants to build relationships with Skanska leadership and fellow contractors while gaining knowledge applicable to their businesses.

Participants who successfully complete the program in December receive certificates and become part of a growing national network of CMBB graduates who continue to benefit from ongoing relationships with Skanska and access to project opportunities.

“When we support small businesses in our local communities, everyone benefits,” said Ashley Hunter, Subcontractor Engagement Coordinator, Skanska. “Strong partnerships create opportunities not just for individual firms but for the entire construction ecosystem. By helping smaller companies build capacity and succeed, we're contributing to a more robust and resilient industry for all.”
