GOAA Opens Terminal C Expansion at Orlando International Airport

ORLANDO, FL — HNTB joins the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA), Orlando International Airport (MCO), and regional partners in celebrating the opening of the Terminal C expansion, an important step in the airport’s work to add capacity, improve passenger flow, and serve the millions of travelers who move through MCO each year.

HNTB was architect of record and engineering design manager for the $462 million Terminal C expansion, which GOAA officials have identified as a key piece of the airport’s long-term development strategy. The new wing completes an element of the terminal’s original vision to provide flexibility for future demand.

“This gate expansion is the latest milestone in our vision, a meaningful step toward elevating the passenger experience as we connect Orlando to the world,” said Lance Lyttle, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, which manages Orlando International Airport. “We could not have reached this point in the journey without the tremendous support of partners like HNTB and others who helped to guide this project.”

The expansion adds five gates to Terminal C and gives the airport more flexibility through Multiple Aircraft Ramp System gate technology and common-use equipment. The project enables the relocation of Virgin Atlantic’s operations to Terminal C, reinforcing the terminal’s role as Orlando International Airport’s international gateway. The expansion will help Terminal C accommodate 12 million passengers annually.

“This is a meaningful addition to Terminal C and another strong example of GOAA’s long-term focus on building an airport that works well for passengers and airlines alike and elevates 'The Orlando Experience' by blending Florida’s sunshine and gardens with thoughtful design elements to create an environment that is both welcoming and distinctly Orlando,” said Bill Brooks, Vice President and Aviation Program Manager at HNTB. “HNTB congratulates GOAA, the contractor, Hensel Phelps, and the entire project team on opening this new expansion and is proud to have contributed to this important investment in the airport’s future.”

HNTB has worked with GOAA for decades providing planning, design, program management, and technical advisory services tied to some of Orlando International Airport’s most important infrastructure investments in its airside, landside, and terminal facilities across the campus. Together, those investments help connect central Florida with destinations around the world and strengthen the region’s economy.

“GOAA has been intentional about planning for the future while keeping the passenger experience at the center of its decisions,” Brooks said. “We value the opportunity to be part of that work and look forward to continuing our partnership as Orlando International Airport prepares for what comes next.”
