Tennessee DOT Celebrates Completion of the I-75 at I-24 Interchange in Hamilton County

CHATTANOOGA, TN — The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) celebrated the completion of Phase II of the I-75 at I-24 Interchange Modification, marking a major milestone in improving one of the most heavily traveled corridors in the state.

Phase II completes the work that began in Phase I to widen and modernize the interchange, which serves as a critical connector for freight, regional travel, and daily commuting in and around Chattanooga. Improvements made as part of this project include the widening of I-24 from the interchange to Germantown Road, replacement of the Moore Road and McBrien Road bridges over I-24, improvements to the exit ramps to North and South Terrace, continued widening of I-75 from the interchange to East Brainerd Road, and replacement of the two bridges over the railroad on I-75. Each interchange ramp has also been widened to three lanes to address the congestion historically experienced throughout this area.

Phase II was delivered using the design-build delivery method, which combines portions of design and construction into a single contract. This approach allows the design-builder to introduce innovation, reduce costs, and shorten construction timelines. Wright Brothers Construction Company Inc. of Charleston, Tennessee, and RK&K of Chattanooga, Tennessee, served as the design-builder for this project.

Work on Phase II began in 2023 and was completed in under three years. Throughout construction, TDOT and its partners have worked to minimize impacts to motorists in this heavily traveled area. With the completion of Phase II, the interchange is now fully open to traffic.
