KISSIMMEE, FL — Superior Construction has been selected to replace two major bridges along a 5-mile section of the Florida Turnpike (SR 91) between Partin Settlement Road and Osceola Parkway in Kissimmee, Florida. Superior will work as a subcontractor to Jr. Davis Construction Company, which is serving as prime contractor.
The turnpike widening project includes significant improvements to multiple bridges, box culverts, barrier walls, and other infrastructure. Superior’s scope includes replacing the Fortune Road and Osceola Parkway bridges. The Fortune Road replacement involves two separate multi-span bridges measuring 352 feet each. The Osceola Parkway bridge, spanning 232 feet, will be expanded from three to five lanes, with dedicated bike and pedestrian lanes.
Superior’s work will require 3,200 cubic yards of concrete, 623,000 pounds of rebar, and 2 million pounds of structural steel. Crews will be working in a heavily traveled corridor that averages 35,000 vehicles per day, requiring careful coordination and phasing to minimize disruptions to traffic flow and ensure worker safety.
Superior’s portion is scheduled for completion by mid-2027. Jr. Davis Construction Company will implement a new Maintenance of Traffic phasing design that will allow crews to complete the work years ahead of the original timeline. The streamlined phasing reduces the number of traffic shifts required while maximizing work windows for enhanced efficiency.
“Complex bridge work in challenging environments is one area where Superior excels, and we’re maintaining our commitment to safety and quality throughout,” said Michael Litchfield, Assistant Project Manager at Superior. “Working in a high-traffic area requires precision planning and seamless coordination. We’re bringing our full expertise to this partnership and approaching it with the same standards we would apply as the prime contractor.”
