Geotechnical Specialist Miller Moves to Freese And Nichols’ Georgia Office

ATLANTA, GA — Marc Miller, PE, the Senior Technical Professional leading geotechnical engineering at Freese and Nichols, Inc., has moved to the Atlanta office, bolstering growth in the firm’s services in Georgia and across the southeastern United States.
Miller, a Freese and Nichols Associate, has handled projects in multiple states and will continue to support work firmwide. His relocation will help expand services for federal, state and municipal clients in the Southeast with geostructural needs in the fields of dam safety and dam design, transportation, embankments and streambank stabilization.
“With this move, Marc is bringing his very strong technical expertise in dam safety, geotechnical engineering and geomorphology to our national offices,” said Victor Vasquez, Group Manager for Freese and Nichols’ Water Resource Design team.
During his 25-year career, Miller has served as the Lead Investigator and Project Manager for a wide variety of federal, state and municipal projects across the southeastern United States, including dam rehabilitation projects for the Natural Resources Conservation Service and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in multiple states. He has additional project experience on levees, flood retarding structures, pump stations, water and wastewater treatment plants and transmission lines.
His work on these projects includes the analysis of gravity and hybrid retaining walls, embankment slopes, reinforced and anchored slopes, treatment of problematic soils and the mitigation of seepage. He has designed zoned embankments, relief wells, filtered internal drainage systems, outfall weirs and related piping, anchored and soil nail walls, reinforced slopes and modular block walls.
Miller also brings depth to Freese and Nichols’ pioneering geomorphology expertise in helping urban communities focused on repairing stream and creek erosion.
Miller is registered as a Professional Engineer in Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, New Mexico and Arizona. He is certified as a dam safety Engineer of Record in Georgia, and in soil exploration and geotechnical testing by the Department of Transportation agencies in both Georgia and Texas.
He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington.
