Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) arrived at CONEXPO's Festival Grounds with a 55,000-square-foot booth that featured more than 20 machines — including 14 new or first-look models across electric and conventional power — alongside integrated displays from Volvo Trucks and Volvo Financial Services.

For contractors, hardware was only half of the story. Inside an immersive “site office,” Volvo CE experts showed how digital tools transform raw data into uptime and safety. Visitors also learned about Volvo CE's growing Equipment as a Service model, which offers guaranteed availability and predictable costs with a pay-for-use structure.

“Since the last CONEXPO, we’ve renewed more than a third of our construction equipment lineup and brought powerful new machines to market — but the full customer value comes when those machines are combined with our services and digital tools,” said Scott Young, President, Volvo Construction Equipment North America. “The right machines backed by the right services help our customers work safer, more productively, and with lower total cost of ownership.”

EC560 Excavator

At the show, Volvo CE debuted the EC560 excavator — a new model that can take on the biggest bucket in its size class to deliver greater productivity. Designed for the most demanding tasks, the 56-ton crawler excavator will be available in early 2027.

The EC560 will join Volvo CE’s modernized excavator series, bridging the gap between existing size classes. It combines the operator-centric design of the new generation — including a reimagined cab and Human Machine Interface (HMI) — with the durability required for mass excavation and material transport. The new excavator series offers optimized electro-hydraulics that provide market-leading cycle time and production potential, the company said.

Wheel Loader Updates

Volvo CE also introduced safety- and productivity-boosting updates across its wheel loader lineup. The company expanded options and upgraded large (L350 and L260 rehandlers), mid-size (L60, L70, L90, and L120 Electric), and compact (L25 Electric and L20 Electric) models.

The company’s largest wheel loader, the L350, now runs on a Volvo D17 engine, which uses wave piston technology to provide higher torque at lower rpm, enabling smoother low-speed operation and faster boom speeds. The L350 also includes Smart Control — a new feature that improves the interaction between the hydraulic, driveline, and engine function to enhance performance.

For specialized material management, the L260 rehandler now features a heavier integrated counterweight to increase loading capacity. Operators can maximize their cycles using a 10.7-cubic-yard bucket with a standard boom or a 9.5-cubic-yard bucket with a long boom. The L260 also incorporates advanced technologies like Automatic Traction Control to improve safety while reducing tire wear and operator fatigue.

In the mid-size range, Volvo CE expanded its Reverse By Braking (RBB) and OptiShift technologies to the L60, L70, and L90. Previously reserved for larger-class models, these features eliminate power losses, reduce driveline wear, and increase fuel efficiency.

These three models plus the L110 and L120 can now be factory-fitted with OilQuick, an automatic quick coupler system that allows operators to connect and disconnect hydraulic attachments from the safety of the cab in seconds.

The 22-ton L120 Electric wheel loader received significant updates to its operational and safety systems, including rimpull control to optimize traction in slippery conditions. Its braking system is enhanced by a new electric brake valve, allowing full RBB functionality even when the battery's state of charge is high or temperatures are extreme. This system assists deceleration while providing similar behavior as the energy recouperation feature, which is able to recoup up to 15 percent of energy, extending runtime and reducing brake wear.

In the compact lineup, the third-generation L20 Electric and L25 Electric wheel loaders are now available in North America. The L20 Electric received a 21 percent increase in standard battery capacity, now matching the L25 Electric.

SD70 Soil Compactor

The company also launched the SD70 soil compactor, a 66-inch, 7-ton roller that delivers the same drum performance as the SD75, but with a streamlined design for cost efficiency. The advanced drum control system offers multiple frequencies, dual amplitudes, and optimized centrifugal force for consistent, high-quality results across a variety of job conditions.
