Detroit City FC Breaks Ground on AlumniFi Field

DETROIT, MI — Detroit City Football Club (DCFC) celebrated the groundbreaking of its new 15,000-seat stadium, which will bridge Detroit, Michigan’s Corktown and Mexicantown neighborhoods, joined by representatives from the City of Detroit, Barton Malow, AlumniFi, club supporters, and others.

“As a club built from the ground up by Detroiters, this moment reflects years of work, belief, and investment from our supporters and partners,” said Sean Mann, Co-Founder and CEO of Detroit City FC. “Breaking ground on AlumniFi Field brings us one step closer to creating a forever home for our supporters and a development that reflects the pride, history, and future of this city.”

The new stadium, named AlumniFi Field, draws inspiration from European stadiums, featuring a natural grass pitch and three permanent grandstands with canopies. Beyond hosting DCFC matches, the venue is intended to serve as a community hub that will welcome other sporting events, concerts, and more. Additional components to the development plan include a 421-space parking deck, a 104-unit residential building, and commercial uses.

“DCFC is truly a case study in their motto of passion for the city and passion for the game. We couldn’t be more excited to be part of this project, be part of this team, and bring this vision to life,” Barton Malow President + CEO Ryan Maibach said.

The project will be constructed on the site of the former Southwest Detroit Hospital. Demolition began in December 2025 to clear the way for the sitework currently underway, with AlumniFi Field slated to open in 2028.
