Part of WSD’s 2020 Bond Program, the 67,000-square-foot building — which will also boast an 88,000-square-foot outdoor play area for all accessibility levels — will feature 27 interchangeable classrooms, a large motor skills room, and a kitchen learning area. When complete in 2024, the center will have the capacity to house up to 600 students.
“Research has shown that a child’s experiences during these early years directly affect how the brain develops and, in particular, how those experiences have a long-term impact on the child’s health and ability to learn and succeed in school and in life,” WSD Superintendent Scott A. Lindberg said in a press release. “I’m proud that WSD is on the cutting-edge of early childhood education by constructing this state-of-the-art center and so grateful to our community for its support.”
