“The construction industry has one of the highest rates of suicides among all occupations — four times higher than the general population,” said Granger Construction President and Associated General Contractors of Michigan (AGC Michigan) Chair Dennis Carignan. “This is a trend we must change. As an industry, it is important for us to remember that safety goes beyond what we can see on a jobsite.”
To raise awareness and support suicide prevention, organizers from Michigan State University, MIOSHA, AGC Michigan, and Granger Construction provided resources during the event.
“We are just getting started on the new Student Recreation and Wellness Center for MSU. In fact, the groundbreaking ceremony for this project will take place the afternoon prior to this event,” said Granger Construction Senior Project Manager Bill Bofysil. “It felt very fitting with the ethos of this project to choose this location as the site for our safety event, and I really appreciate how much support the university has provided to help make this event available for local tradespeople.”
