Shannon Joins HNTB Seattle as Project Director of Highway Transportation

BELLEVUE, WA — Michael Shannon, PE, returned to HNTB Corporation as Project Director in the firm’s Bellevue office. In his new role, Shannon will work with agencies such as the Washington State Department of Transportation, Sound Transit, Port of Seattle and the Seattle Department of Transportation, helping to strategize and deliver projects and programs. Shannon previously worked with HNTB’s Orlando office as a Project Manager for 12 years.

“Mike brings a wealth of multi-modal transportation experience that spans highway, rail, aviation, tolling and emerging mobility,” said Kevin Collins, PE, HNTB Seattle Office Leader and Vice President. “His depth and breadth of experience combined with his ability to build and lead teams, provide thought leadership, and demonstrate unwavering client-focus make him a valuable asset for our firm and our clients.”

Shannon has worked in both the public and private sectors and brings 21 years of experience to HNTB. Most recently, he served as District Five Secretary for the Florida Department of Transportation and CEO of SunRail, the commuter rail system serving the Orlando metropolitan area. Managing over 700 employees and a $6-billion, five-year work program, he helped lead Florida’s transportation vision for all modes of travel.

Shannon earned a Master of Science in engineering management at Marshall University Graduate College and a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering at West Virginia Institute of Technology. He belongs to the American Council of Engineering Companies and International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association. His honors include a 2019 Women’s Transportation Seminar Ray LaHood Award, which recognizes a leader and role model in transportation.

HNTB’s infrastructure projects in the region include SR 99 Alaskan Way Tunnel; Mercer Corridor improvements in Seattle; Seattle-Tacoma International Airport third runway; second Tacoma Narrows bridge; and more.
