Treyger, National Practice Consultant - Bridges, HNTB Fellow, and Vice President for HNTB’s Northwest Division, accepted the award virtually during the ceremony which was broadcast live via YouTube. He is a registered Professional Engineer and Structural Engineer with 45 years of experience, including 41 years with HNTB where he has led multiple signature span and complex bridge projects.
Through his leadership, Treyger has demonstrated expertise in suspension and cable-stayed structures, steel and concrete arches, concrete segmental bridges, and tunnels. Several of his projects have been recognized with national awards for their excellence in design, including ACEC’s Grand Award and ASCE’s Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award for WSDOT’s SR 16/Tacoma Narrows Suspension Bridges Design-Build Project in 2008 and Tilikum Crossing in 2016.
Most recently, Treyger celebrated the opening of the Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement with HNTB’s client, the Port of Long Beach, California. This long-span, cable-stayed bridge in an active seismic zone set many standards and was closely followed by the engineering community as it developed. During his acceptance speech he noted that Portland’s Tilikum Crossing was the favorite project of his entire career.
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Semyon on some of the most complex and challenging projects in the U.S. over the last 30 years,” said Michael Jones, PE, SE, HNTB Principal Engineer, as part of the nomination process. “Although a giant among his peers, Semyon influences decisions on these major projects with humility and a collaborating demeanor that is a pure pleasure to work with. He is truly the epitome of the Engineer’s Engineer and a model for ethically practicing one’s profession.”
