SEATTLE, WA — Skanska, a global construction and development firm, announces the substantial completion of their work on the Lynnwood Link Extension (L300) Project. Skanska’s delivery of the project includes the construction of 3.7 miles of guideway, two-elevated stations, and a five-story parking garage at the Lynnwood Transit Center.
The GCCM delivery process was a central part of Sound Transit’s plan for the Lynnwood Link Extension project. Skanska’s success with the delivery method included a start-up plan for pioneering access, establishing environmental controls, and performing utility relocations as they were available. This reduced delays that would have put the client’s revenue service date at risk and allowed for improved construction methods.
Throughout the construction of the Lynnwood Link Extension (L300), Skanska:
- Navigated through the challenging impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic — including the concrete strike — without altering the project’s original targets
- Preserved 97 percent of the original wetlands of McAleer Creek by utilizing a temporary soldier pile wall with tiebacks instead of an alternative that would have encroached significantly on the wetlands
- Reduced the number of planned I-5 closures from 16 to four by adjusting construction methods in both directions of traffic
- Hoisted over 200 precast girders without incident — neither to Skanska's workers nor the traveling public
- Limited impacts on nearby residential neighborhoods by creating sound walls, landscaping buffers, and a new yard entrance to reduce construction traffic
“Skanska is proud of the work we have done on the Lynnwood Link Extension (L300),” said Ryan Clayton, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Skanska USA Civil. “Working with Sound Transit has given us the opportunity to build a state-of-the-art public transit solution for the communities of the greater Puget Sound region. The knowledge and expertise of everyone involved on the project allowed us, and our partners, to find collaborative solutions to get the job done safely, on time and within budget.”
