Greenbelt Pathway Reconstruction, I-15 Value Planning Study Win Awards at Engineering Competition

BOISE, ID — An I-15 system interchange value planning study and a Boise Greenbelt Pathway Reconstruction, each designed by Stanley Consultants, were winners at the 2019 Engineering Excellence Awards banquet recently held by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Idaho. The projects each won first place in their respective categories.
A value planning (VP) study on the I-15 and Wye Opass System Interchange was awarded first place in the Studies, Research and Consulting category. Stanley Consultants provided the study for the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) to support the programming and design activities for the I-15, I-86 System Interchange and develop a recommended design alternative to effectively handle regional traffic needs, along with local traffic movements. This marks the first time the ITD has commissioned an independent VP Study to help guide and design a future project.
The Boise River Greenbelt Pathway Reconstruction took first place in the Special Projects category. The project brought new life to two dilapidated sections of Boise’s No. 1 attraction. Ada County Parks and Waterways contracted Stanley Consultants to redesign and widen 1.3 miles of the pathway near Warm Springs Avenue and 1.65 miles of the Penitentiary Canal Pathway.
This project marks Ada County’s first use of cement-treated base, which allowed the reuse of the existing asphalt base. This eliminated the need to remove the old base and haul in new rock base by truck. This was key because a critical lack of access to the project site required construction rigs to back up into the work zone. Use of the pathways has surged, for both recreation and as an alternative means of transportation.
Each project also received a National Recognition Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies.
