Granite, headquartered in Watsonville, California, was recently named 2024 Grand Champion in the American Road & Transportation Builders Association’s (ARTBA) Contractor Safety Awards for transportation construction companies.
According to ARTBA, the judges were impressed with Granite’s empowerment of their workers to enhance safety on every work site and their communication of safety concerns and solutions to employees.
“Granite is proud to have been in business for more than a century, and from the very start, safety has been at the very foundation of all that we do,” said Granite COO Jim Radich. “Our strong safety culture supports and encourages our employees to watch out for themselves and others. Our systems and processes require active participation from management and supervisory personnel. The protection of employees, property, and the environment is essential to the efficient and successful completion of every project we undertake. We believe that preventing incidents is more than just good business — it is our moral obligation.”
ARTBA recognized finalists for the annual safety awards in three categories based on personnel hours worked in the previous year. Granite was selected from among companies with over 1 million personnel hours. Winners in each category were then invited to present before a panel of industry judges.
Companies were competitively selected based on:
