Mario Sinacola & Sons Excavating, Inc. Wins Trimble Award for Most Impressive HR Achievement

by: Jessica Hoover
Mario Sinacola & Sons Excavating, Inc. recently received the 2022 Trimble Viewpoint Construction Award for Most Impressive Human Resource Achievement by hiring and onboarding 1,000 new employees in under two years. Trimble’s annual awards honor the technological achievements of North American contractors as exhibited through the growth and improvements of their projects, people, and processes.

Along with the Most Impressive HR Achievement award, other categories included Most Outstanding Project and Best Use of Trimble Construction One Technology. The Trimble Viewpoint Construction Awards were evaluated by a panel of judges including select Trimble Construction executives and Manohar Damle of Basic Resources, Inc., who won last year in the Best Use of Technology category.

“While project demand has been high, inflation, supply chain volatility, and high material prices have forced many contractors to become more innovative and creative in order for their projects to be completed on time and on budget,” said Lawrence Smith, Vice President and General Manager of Trimble Construction Management Solutions. “For our construction award winners, technology proved to be the best way to gain the agility and flexibility needed to respond to today’s ever-changing business conditions. As a result, they didn’t just improve on processes momentarily but developed new workflows and efficiencies that will help them scale and grow for many years to come.”

Mario Sinacola Utilizes Viewpoint HR Management for Streamlining and Expediting Onboarding Process
Prior to implementing Viewpoint HR Management in February 2021, Dallas, Texas-based Mario Sinacola was using a restrictive and error-prone in-house application that required new hires to come into the HR office to complete their onboarding paperwork.

“[After switching to Viewpoint] in the month of February [2021], we processed and onboarded our first new hire through that system. It really has completely changed our whole process, what we're able to do, how often we're able to do it,” said Ana Bermudez, Director of Human Resources at Mario Sinacola.

Viewpoint HR Management gives organizations the ability to better manage field and office employees by reducing manual data entry, speeding up workflows, and improving productivity. Mario Sinacola has been able to streamline and expedite its onboarding process since the implementation of this technology, with nearly 1,000 employees being boarded and processed through Viewpoint in under two years.

New hires at Mario Sinacola can now submit their paperwork via the online portal ahead of time, which is then proofread and checked by HR staff, enabling workers to begin working on the jobsite almost immediately. The company also used Viewpoint HR Management to customize its profiles by providing both English and Spanish forms.

“This year has been the busiest for us. We're hiring between 70 and 85 people a month. So with this technology in place, with Viewpoint what we're able to do is accelerate that [and] execute very quickly,” Bermudez said. “We get people in the morning onboarded and out to the job site with very, very minimal delay. From a processing, onboarding standpoint, it's giving us the flexibility and the ability to move very quickly and therefore meet the demand of the business, which for us as an HR partner is really the most critical thing that we have to do.”
