To support these and future projects, the Denver office increased its headcount substantially, adding engineers, senior planners, program managers, environmental experts, and construction managers. The office has also added employees to its tolling practice group to support the development of E-470 and its systems practice group, which assists clients with communications, electric vehicle charging programs, and the power systems of complex transportation infrastructure in Colorado and across the nation.
As demand for infrastructure development has surged in Denver recently, HNTB has partnered with its clients to help achieve their business goals and initiatives. For instance, Denver International Airport is the third busiest U.S. airport and has introduced its Vision 100 plan to accommodate 100 million passengers in the next decade. This plan also encourages major infrastructure companies to collaborate with underrepresented partners to promote economic equity and foster a more diverse and inclusive community of vendors and contractors.
To honor this initiative, HNTB partnered as a sub-consultant with a majority woman-owned aviation consulting firm, Aviation Planning Group, to successfully secure a contract with DEN to provide on-call airport planning services.
“We share the Denver International Airport’s commitment to supporting minority- and women-owned businesses and are proud to be acting as a sub-consultant to APG on this work,” said Denver-based Scott Steckler, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, Managing Director of National Aviation Architecture at HNTB. “Our partnership enables us to support DBE/MWBEs to grow their businesses while advancing the airport’s Vision 100 plan to build additional capacity to support its growth.”

Other DEN projects that HNTB acts as a sub-consultant for DBE/MWBEs include a contract led by Peak Consulting for on-call environmental and sustainable planning services and another with Yeh and Associates, which will provide quality assurance for construction.
Support includes providing training, technical knowledge sharing, and assistance in pursuing new business. With this support, HNTB is training and developing small businesses to compete for and successfully deliver large complex projects.
“As we add depth to our local bench and develop deeper ties within our community, we’re better prepared to support clients and DBE/MWBE partners in the successful development and maintenance of world-class transportation infrastructure,” said Reza Akhavan, PE, HNTB’s Denver Office Leader. “With a strong local team coupled with HNTB’s national experts, we’re able to provide our clients with the best of both worlds — the tailored and responsive service of a local firm backed by a nationally recognized team of experts from coast to coast.”
