HNTB Adds Trapani as Senior Project Director in Denver Office

DENVER, CO — Ralph Trapani, PE, joins HNTB’s Denver office as a Senior Project Director. Previously based in HNTB’s Seattle office, Trapani brings more than 40 years of experience and in-depth knowledge of the Denver area to this new role. Leveraging his tunnel engineering expertise, Trapani will help grow the Denver office through the pursuit and delivery of major transportation projects in the region.

Trapani joined HNTB in May 2020, working in the Seattle area as a Senior Project Director in the firm’s Northwest Division. Trapani started his career at CDOT, working 27 years as a Program Engineer. He managed numerous megaprojects and provided counsel and assistance for several large projects.

“Ralph’s extensive leadership skills, deep knowledge of complex transportation projects, and wealth of experience in tunnel engineering will be invaluable in this new role,” said Reza Akhavan, PE, HNTB Vice President and Transportation Practice Leader in Colorado. “We are thrilled to welcome Ralph to the Denver team and look forward to leveraging his expertise as we continue to grow the firm’s presence in Colorado to better support our clients.”

Before joining HNTB, Trapani worked for another consulting firm’s transportation group for 16 years as a Senior Program Director, a role that enabled him to pursue and secure many large-scale projects across the U.S. and Canada.

“I have always had a deep passion for integrating safety and mobility with environmental protection. This new role as a Senior Project Director in Denver enables me to continue that passion through the planning and delivery of complex transportation projects that help the environment while also improving safety for travelers,” Trapani said.

Trapani earned a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering from the University of Colorado-Boulder. He is a volunteer member of the Glenwood Springs Transportation Commission. He also serves as Vice Chair of the board for Clean Energy Economy for the Region.
