The 2021 Educational Interiors Showcase is a national competition recognizing school designs that support innovative educational programs. Out of 75 entries from across the country, Fanning Howey is one of five firms to be honored with a Bronze Citation.
“The overlapping layers of collaborative space at Columbia City High School will strengthen relationships between students and teachers and provide for a more meaningful learning experience,” said William Payne, AIA, CEO of Fanning Howey.
Jurors praised the design for its “good use of flexible furniture” and “the center learning commons.”
Columbia City High School is the first new high school designed and built in Indiana since 2012. The 295,000 SF facility replaces a 1958 building which was created for a 20th century education. Design of the new high school allows Columbia City educators to apply a 21st century curriculum focused on graduation pathways, collaborative learning, and real-world experiences.
